Workshop "The future of the Global Agricultural Concept Scheme (GACS)"

Description

The workshop aims at discussing the future of the Global Agricultural Concept Scheme (GACS). The GACS working group, formed by CABI, FAO and NAL, delivered its first output, open to community feedback, in May 2016. Now it is time to think of its next phase. Participants in the GACS WG as well as other partners and individuals interested in data interoperability in agriculture are invited to participate in this workshop and discuss proposals on what direction GACS should take in the future. 
 
 

Tuesday 22, 14:00-17:00 - Session 1

(Can extend beyond 5pm)

This first meeting will be dedicated to high-level discussion on the future of GACS - goals and requirements, what use cases it is expected to cover, issues to address along the way.

Tentative agenda:

  1. Introduction of the workshop (10', JK - WG)
  2. Round of presentation of participants (15 min)
  3. GACS as of today (15 min) 
  4. Known issues of GACS Core, including "hierarchy"
  5. Results of Survey on GACS Core - part 1, general use of GACS.
  6. The future of GACS, initial discussion on: Goals, Definition, Content, Structure, Namespaces, Stakeholders

Wednesday 23, 09:30-12:30 - Session 2

This second day of meetings will be for addressing specific/technical issues. The group can work in plenary or break out in subgroups, depending on the agreement taken.

Thursday 24, 16:00-17:00 - Session 5

 
The afternoon slot is very short because of the Panel on Agrisemantics @MTSR, 13:30-15:10.  
 
We keep this last slot "just in case", but the goal is to close work with the morning session.
